Bus Gamer 03 - I faked every blog!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

This image is a good summation of the entire plot and characterization of BG.

One of the really great things about this short - I mean, smaller than average - I mean, it’s still a good size - series is that it flaunts the usual anime conventions in favor of a more cutting-edge program.

Coherent story? No way!
Pacing? Yawn!
Character development? Who needs it!
Memorable ending? Yeah, right!

Hellooo, phallic symbol

If you believe what the WordPress spambots say about it, I’m a middle-aged man with a severe erectile disfunction problem.

Well joke’s on you, bots! My Manly Quotient has shot way through the roof since I started my Bus Gamer injections.

REAL men go out for tea before the ass kicking begins.

I think I’ve found my new Moonlight Mile. Pity it’s not longer. I mean bigger. I mean…um…er…

Emma: Second Act 12 - It’s a Weep-Fest

Friday, July 27th, 2007

We've bypassed the sniffles and gone straight to the ugly cry!

And thus, another season of Victorian Romance draws to a close. Unlike season one, though, there’s no room for a third season - and, really, no need.

Did I absolutely love this finale more than I’ve ever loved any other finale before it? Well…no. But it did fit the series pretty well.

Did I cry a few times and get all gooey inside over the happenings? You bet your sweet ass I did.

How many times did I cry? Let us count them…

Emma: Second Act 9-10-11 Lump Sum

Peek-a-boo, I see you...

The US licensing of Emma was a bittersweet moment for me. On the one hand, I will now get to own this amazing series (both seasons!) on a DVD that I didn’t have to make myself. At the same time, though, this meant that Iichan dropped the series and would no longer be translating it. So how the hell was I supposed to know how it all ended?!?!?!

Cue panic and a lot of emo-weeping.

Well, luckily for me, another sub group opted to pick it up and finish out the series, giving me the strength to carry on. I’m still excited to be able to buy it on DVD when it’s finally released (you know, a few years from now…), but at least now I won’t have to wait quite as long for a resolution.

And so now I give you my few brief thoughts on the past three episodes.

Only one left and then the curtain closes on the second season!

(I just realized that I’ve completely skipped episode 8…but, uh…you know…whatever. Stuff happened, Emma was in it, William was in it, the end.)

Emma, Emma...chin up!

Things are about to get a lot more complicated for our two star-crossed lovers. Emma’s mistress has up and moved to London, bringing Emma just a stone’s throw from her darling William.

Naturally, she’s depressed about it.

Death Note 35 - The end is…Near.

Is it almost over?

This episode starts with a strange, sort of slow-motioned montage of scenes surrounding our various characters and their dealings. The music is very somber, like someone has just died. It’s odd. Basically, this is the signal that there’s a lot going on, but they don’t have time to animate it all, so you’ll just have to guess at what’s really happening. Good luck.

Then it goes to Light getting all giddy over Mikami “confirming it.” Confirming what?!

…Even if it cared, the world may never know, considering the C&D order given to Kuro-Hana. I know, I know…I laughed, too.

PORK CHOP SANDWICHES?!

Things took a dramatic and unexpected turn in this week’s episode. Deciding to throw caution to the wind, the production team ended the Death Note series three episodes early, and to hell with the exciting conclusion you might have expected. No sir, we’re headed in a different direction altogether.

NUCLEAR EXPLOSION. EVERYONE DIES.

Oh. No. No, that isn’t what happened at all.

Death Note 33 - No such luck.

I think there's a metaphor here...if I could just find it...

If episode 32 was a departure from crap, episode 33 seems to be settling back down into it. It wasn’t as bad as we have seen lately, but it wasn’t as not-bad as the last episode, either. I just don’t know what to do with Death Note anymore. It’s like my child, in a twisted sort of way - I’m disappointed in it and I want to send it to a home, but once upon a time I made the commitment and now I feel too guilty to put it up for adoption.

Death Note 32 - Dare I hope…?!

I can't even believe my eye...s...

Episode 32, I am thrilled to say, was a sort of return to the old Death Note. That is, it didn’t suck quite as hard as others have and it didn’t leave me feeling deflated and upset. Instead, I actually had a good time watching it and my first response was, “damn…what the hell am I going to blog about?!” A good sign, Death Note. Keep it up. Please!
